The Fork In The Road

In the Bible, Proverbs 4 tells us that we should always follow what the Father tells us - don’t turn your back on wisdom for she will protect you. Love wisdom and she will guard you. Getting wisdom is the wisest thing you can do. Stay on the straight path for when you walk you will not be held back, when you run you will not stumble. Do not follow the path of evildoers because the way of the wicked will be like being in total darkness. Rather, follow the way of the righteous and your way will shine brighter than ever.

This chapter in Proverbs reminds me of decisions we make every day, some quickly, some not so quickly. I would call this “THE FORK IN THE ROAD.” Whatever way we decide can change the outcome of each and every decision we make, whether it seems important or not. If we are being totally honest, the decisions that we make don’t always align with what Jesus teaches us in the Bible. Sometimes we come to forks in the road and we have no clue which way to go. We pray and pray and sometimes get no answer. I read an article that brought up an interesting perspective, which is, sometimes God wants us to make the decision on our own and He will bless us with whatever decision we make. Sometimes the road is not easy and is filled with dangerous twists and turns, as long as we allow God to choose our steps the Lord will guide us to a favorable outcome.

At Celebrate Recovery, Principle 7 tells us to reserve a daily time with God for self-examination, Bible reading, and prayer in order to know God and His will for our lives, and to gain the power to follow His will. In fact, all 8 Principles that Celebrate Recovery is based on are laid out in the Bible and follow Jesus’ sermon on the mount. By applying these Principles to our lives, we get a better understanding of how we should live, and possibly understand what it is that God wants us to do with our lives. Celebrate Recovery helps us to understand that our mistakes don’t define who we are, rather it is a way that God teaches us to be compassionate to others that may struggle with the same hurts, habits, and hang-ups as us.

When you come to that difficult “FORK IN THE ROAD,” you should ask yourself a couple of questions:

    1. Did you ask God for help?

    2. When you ask for help, do you trust Him with the answer?

God does not hide the answers from us, but if we fail to seek Him we may not get the desired outcome!
